For the past several years, Nicholas de Wolff has served as Chief Marketing Officer for Thomson’s technology practice, shaping and communicating the identity and activities of the company’s research and development hub. He oversaw market positioning across multiple areas including content security, software, integrated circuits, tuners, intellectual property & licensing, and electronic content distribution solutions. He also led the group’s technology branding, events, promotions, and public relations activities.
Mr. de Wolff joined Thomson from his own successful business development and marketing consultancy, where he provided strategic planning, branding, and marketing services to clients such as McKinsey & Company, NPR affiliate KCRW-FM, and the Screen Actors Guild.
Previously, de Wolff was vice president and creative director of Dream Theatre, a digital marketing and production studio. During his tenure, he oversaw some of the earliest promotional campaigns on the Web for clients including Disney, the Jim Henson Company and Sony. In addition, de Wolff oversaw the production of the first user-edited online commercial for Lexus, which received a Promax Award – one of the highest accolades for promotion and marketing. His work received another Promax award in 2001 for creative direction and production of Feature Film promotional websites.
With a background in the arts (nearly 20 years as an award-winning actor and director in theater), and a solid track record in business diagnostics, Mr. de Wolff has developed a reputation as a highly effective bridge between the first creative glimmer and final market manifestation of his partners’ and clients’ dreams. He has helped launch businesses, blockbuster feature films, video games, and more, and is thrilled each time that he discovers a new innovation.
Mr. de Wolff’s professional affiliations include serving as a founding Governor of the Producers Guild of America’s New Media Council, and he currently sits on the Guild’s International Committee. He is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and has served several times on a jury for the Primetime Emmy Awards. Mr. de Wolff sits on a variety of Boards of Directors including of the Business Marketing Association. He is also a member of several advisory boards including for the CMO Institute, the Charter High School for the Arts, and the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, where he currently serves as Chairperson.
Born in Switzerland and raised in England, de Wolff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Duke University. He currently resides in Burbank with his wife and daughter.
