I admit it, I twitter all day long. And so do a lot of people I know. It’s embarrassing but true. Twittering has become a way of life for some of us. Now, if you don’t know what twittering is, you are missing out. Twittering is a mini-blog that you can update from your computer, from your phone, from a dashboard widget, you name it. You have 140 characters at a time to tell the world something about what you are doing, what you are thinking, what you are feeling. You post it, it goes out into the ether and you become part of a never-ending circle of updates. And there are thousands of Twitterers, so you’re never alone.
Go to Twitter.com and sign up for a free account. You then start twittering and your mini- note goes out to the Twitter community. You can start “following” other Twitterers, which means their updates are sent to your computer or texted to your phone, and then others can start following you.
It’s weird at first, but becomes highly addictive. Some people post what they’re having for lunch. Others post what meeting they’re about to take. Companies can send out update twitters. Other people post their frustrations, their fears, their hopes.
Me? I mostly post “witty” little sayings (at least I think they are!). I use a variety of cool Twitter apps, from Twitterific (which is a stand-alone program for Macs that constantly keeps you updated), to Twitterlex (a widget-based dashboard mini-app) that’s great for a quick post.
Twittering: It’s like having a mini-neighborhood of friends and acquaintances, and you’re always in the loop. Check it out, you may like it!
