OK, so here’s the deal:
I’m a producer.
And no, the writers and the WGA are not striking me.
They are striking against management (the studios and networks of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the poorly-named AMPTP). Which are not really producers, they are the studios and networks.
But it’s confusing since the studios chose to put the word “producers” in their title.
And everyone, it seems, in the media, is confused, and keeps calling the AMPTP “producers”. Which gets very confusing to us actual producers (many of whom are members of the Producers Guild of America)… Because we keep getting blamed for the strike.
Just this morning, my mother asked me if I could please settle this strike thing… see what I mean? I’ve been producing for almost 30 years, and even she doesn’t know what I do…
