TiVo! TiVo! TiVo!

I love my TiVo. There, I said it. Now I can deal with it. First you have to face your addictions, then you can start handling them… or something like that. TiVo has saved the world, in my book, and it keeps getting better. Yes, there’s Slingbox and Apple TV and Moxie and 49 other devices out there for delivering TV, but none have the simple, intuitive, smart sophistication that TiVo has.

Remember the world before TiVo? There was that VCR you could try to program to record your favorite show but that totally sucked. Then VCR+ came along and that didn’t suck as much. But it was all tape based and you had to put in tapes and had to find the right code for the VCR+ thing to work. And then TiVo came along and the whole world turned into Technicolor. And they kept getting better at it. TiVo Series 2 boxes cames out and then TiVo Series 3 HD boxes came out. But then other companies started putting out DVRs and attempted to co-opt what TiVo had done so well. But no one got close or still has, in my book.

Meanwhile, poor old TiVo’s stock prices have never really grown, and they’ve faced incredible competition from all the other companies that rushed out DVR capabilitites in their boxes. It’s not right and we should all support TiVo. They did it first, they did it right, they continue to try.

Now, their marketing could use a lot a help, and their corny made-for-TiVo demos and promotions could use even more, but really, who cares about that anyway? I’d be happy to consult with them if they want help but I would throw this out there to you: What have YOU done for TiVo lately? Give them another chance, they deserve it!
